For centuries, engineering and architectural competitions have proven their worth as instruments for guaranteeing high-quality infrastructure and buildings. Their importance is highlighted by the fact that so many of the buildings and open spaces that characterise our towns and cities resulted from competitions. Furthermore, design competitions constitute a proven form of applied research.
