The intended purpose of this project is to setup a web portal and a database to exchange and systematically collect knowledge and information on architecture and planning competitions in Switzerland. The aim of these new tools is to increase the quality and efficency of competitions and to enable research on architecture and the building industry. read more
October 2010 ; The Canadian Competitions Catalogue (CCC) has been updated with the competition for a New Planetarium in Montreal (2008). Carmela Cucuzzella, Phd candidate and expert on theories and practices of sustainability, comments on the current impact on norms in the political use of competitions.
Design competitions are a key element in Swiss building history and culture: about 200 regular design competitions and a large number of mostly private procedures with a competitive char-acter are realised every year. However, it seems increasingly difficult to convince public and es-pecially private constructors/investors to realise design competitions using the regular proce-dures. read more
Depuis le milieu des années 1990, nous assistons à l’organisation d’un nombre considérable de concours de logements collectifs en Suisse, surtout dans la partie alémanique du pays concernant à la fois le projet de nouvelles constructions ou la rénovation et la réhabilitation de bâtiments existants. Cette forme de compétition propose des conditions spécifiques qui ont certainement des incidences sur la teneur et l’innovation des projets. read more

Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wurden Fallbeispiele von Wettbewerben im Schnittstellenbereich Städtebau und Verkehr aus den vergangenen Jahren untersucht. Gesucht wurden Antworten auf die Fragen, die sich für Veranstalter und Teilnehmende bei Vorbereitung, Durchführung und Umsetzung von Wettberbsverfahren stellen.
Designing appropriate architectural structures or planning desirable urban environments as well as inventing methods and processes to bring about new ideas require a collective competence, assurance, consensus and acceptance. It needs a shared consistency, participation, confidence and ability to better reframe the often ‘wicked’ design problems and suitable solutions in/for the continuously changing societies. read more
This licentiate thesis investigates architectural competitions and quality assessment of architecture in an early phase. The project is developed out of a need of knowledge about the role of architectural competitions in design quality improvement and their outcomes in society. It focuses on a central part of the competition: the jury’s judging process and how jury members discuss and evaluate entries in order to select and award a winner. read more
